Round Five Race Report

How lucky is braaap club?? The middle of a Tasmanian Winter and the weather once again turned it on for round five of the Tasmanian Mini SX Championships. Scheduled on a weekend that was packed with motorsport action across the state it was great to see a very healthy field of riders turn out to smash the ruts and the lush dirt of the Powranna circuit!
With A grade series leader Brad Smith once again unable to compete it left day wide open for the rest of the field which provided hot action all day!! Now being deep into the race series the club has got the hang of how to run an awesome event, the qualifying rounds flew by and before long it was finals time! Qualifying showed racing incredibly tight across all three classes!
The juniors class provided some of the best entertainment of the day, Brady Anthers, Sam Waterboy Dobson and Douggie Pinner were all so close, backing a winner was almost impossible! The chicks class was another one to watch with the experienced Sheridan Smith and Kiera Preece banging bars all day! Sheridan’s corner speed shone through and she took the overall for the day!!
The A grade Riders were loving the Powranna track, it’s just getting faster and faster, with so many different lines through the rutted corners, passing opportunities are endless! Consistency was the key to success, with the top 6 riders so evenly matched on speed, crashes meant hard work for the rest of the race to get back up to pace! Gazza Wellmans straight line speed and ability to smash through the ruts gave him the overall win. Clayton Lockyer clearly loved his new 160cc pro, piloting it into second place! Hobart’s Jason Klop represented for the south taking out third place!
Once racing had wrapped up and presentation was over, it was then time to cut sick!! Brodie Cha Chin Masters came up with the elimination man on man format for the end of the day muck up race. The Idea was an all in one lap battle with the last rider across the line to be eliminated, then the remaining contenders to line up and do the same again. This format of racing made for some intense racing and some extremely desperate passes, Klop #007 and Chin #118 came together more than once with klop throwing down some very dirty block passes! Dylan Penney or PROBO was the dark horse coming through with the good in the final against Klop.
All in all another greatly successfull day for braaap club. Thanks must be given to all the flaggies, marshals and especially, Christine knee and Michelle. Also to everyone who helped with track prep and the erection of fences at the Powranna track.
Make sure your at Hobart June 28th for round six at Cambridge, your support is greatly appreciated, keep it coming!
